Gearing Up for a New Year and a Quick Question

Well we have had some fun this Summer. My intention was to school through the Summer but I realized I needed a break just as bad as the kids did. So I threw caution, along side some homeschool books, to the wind and had a super fun Summer.

I plan on getting back on track the beginning of August. I think we are all refreshed and recharged for the upcoming school year.

Nature Study

No matter where you live you have nature all around you. It's one of the easiest things to study because you never really have to leave your own yard.
Since our move we have new trees to discover and more birds all around. I can't wait to get started with our nature studies here.

If I had to recommend 2 books for that it would be these.

Paired with these notebooking pages from here.

And then there is this wonderful blog that has great resources as well.

Do you already have a nature study going? If so what? Do you have any fun resources to share? Please let me know. I'm always open to new stuff.

HAVE A BLESSED DAY!

Getting Back in the Swing!

I thought I'd check in for those of you who actually read this blog.
We are finally moved into our new home but it's been non stop since December. "Official" homeschooling has been sporadic but in that time my 8 year old decided to take it upon himself to polish up his reading. He's doing wonderful! Better than when I was sitting down with him each day. LOL! I guess you never know when that light is going to come on huh?
I'm hoping to get back into a regular routine soon as it just makes the day go smoother.

Do you have any exciting homeschool projects going on?

Art Work! Fall Pictures

My son has been busy painting this week.
My husband had dug some butcher paper out of the trash at work and we've been using this huge roll for the past 4 or 5 years. I highly recommend it for art projects.
So here's my 8 year old and his amazing Fall pictures.

If you’ve posted any of your kids art work I’d love to see it. Just leave your link in the comments section.

The Ant Farm!

For my son's birthday this past June he got this Ant Farm but because of extremely hot weather here in Florida they couldn't send the ants until a couple days ago.
My son is soooo excited about this.
Here they are getting right down to business.
This is within hours of set up.

Now this is only day 2 and they are making some serious progress.
This has been so much fun for the boys.
This kit included the sand and a years supply of ant food. They give you a certificate to send for the ants.
If you live in Florida don't bother sending for them during the summer. It won't happen. LOL!
I think this is the ant farm we have.

Have a fabulous day!

Homeschool Supply Help Please!

I don't know about you but I'm pretty fed up with the cheap pencils that either the lead falls out or the "eraser" doesn't erase, it just smudges everything together or tears your paper to shreds.
When I was a kid I think we had one choice and that was a No.2 Mead pencil. Does Mead still exist? Am I looking in the wrong places?
There was no need to buy separate erasers.
But I can't seem to find a decent pencil for my kiddos anywhere!
HELP!
What do you use? Because these aren't working!

Thank you my friends!
