Getting Serious About It!

Man it's been a busy month. What I thought I was going to get done, I didn't, but I got a whole lot done that I didn't plan on. So now it's time to get those things done that at this point NEED to be done. Like planning the next school year.
Where does the time go?
So the majority of this week will be used to do that. The other part will be to clean my house! OY! It's amazing how it builds up.

What kind of system do you use to plan your homeschooling?
Do you use teacher's manuals?
Look at lessons ahead of time?
Wing it day to day? LOL!

Have a marvelous day!

  1. I'm about to start planning for school too. I've bought all the curriculum, now I just have to start planning our schedule, lessons, etc. I usually do it the last few weeks before we start back. If I do it any earlier than that I will forget what I've planned.

  2. I use teacher's manuals for some courses. I do plan by an overview of ~40 weeks, then break it down into a weeks worth of lessons. My ds is 11 and prefers to plan out his week, while the other ds is 8 and wants his days planned.

We plan to work from August 2 to May 26. I don't plan Monday through Friday, I plan Day 1 to Day 200 or so. If it's a quiet saturday and we are snowed in, then we have school. It works well and leaves us the ability to take a day off to play in the fresh snow or enjoy the first sunny day in the spring.

  3. I am JUST NOW trying to decide whether to homeschool my 6 year old this next year. We are having a "trial" homeschool right now and it is going well. Do I really have to plan the WHOLE year out ahead of time?
What I have been doing is homeschooling 4 days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, leaving Wednesday for errands, makeups etc. I have a curriculum book for first grade, I have been doing the planning the Sunday before.
It is interesting to hear how others do this since it is all new to me! I will look forward to checking out your homeschool blog. I have also started one: http://homeschoolingmemoirs.blogspot.com/

  4. I usually make a really rough game plan for the year the last week of the school year when what's worked and what hasn't is still fresh in my mind. Then the last week of summer break I fill it in a bit. I schedule loosely, just noting "what" and roughly "how much" we need to cover each month in each subject so we can stay on track.
